Smile Train and Yemen Smile launch partnership at Jibla

The United States Smile Train Charity- Yemen Smile Charity Sana’a partnership programme was launched for the cleft lip and palate children of Yemen in a one week long camp at the Jibla government hospital in Ibb governorate from the 15th-21st of January. Over fifty patients attended the camp and 36 were operated over a five and a half day period ;33 cleft lip and palate patients and 3 cosmetic surgery patients received free surgery at the hospital under the Smile Train-Yemen Smile sponsorship.

The government leaders of Ibb visited the camp to express their thanks to the SmileTrain-Yemen Smile project leaders and presented Bona and Wahed with medals from the government of Yemen and certificates of thanks.
 

All the surgeries for the patients went well and the patients did well post operatively.

The next camp will be held at the nearby Yarim Governent hospital for about 35-40 cleft children on the 20th of February after another major smile camp under Mr.Abdukl Karim Hasssan..
 

Sponsorship by Smile Train

From January 2010 onwards, the Smile Train USA will sponsor all the cleft lip and palate surgeries under Yemen Smile charity, on a three monthly basis. An official agreement for this sponsorship was signed between the Smile Train Office in New York under Vice President Delois Greenwood, Smile Train leaders in New Delhi Satish Kalra and Dr.Ashish Sabharwal and Bona Lotha of the Yemen Smile Sana’a charity Office.

In order to make it easy for cleft children to attend the free smile camps at Jibla hospital on a regular basis, the Yemen Smile Sana’a office will donate the following smile operation equipment to Jibla hospital for the regular cleft surgery camps there:

• A Takaoka anesthesia machine donated for cleft work by Total E&P France
   
• One suction machine
   
• Expendable medical items

Several other medical items for the operation room will soon be donated for this cleft project at Jibla hospital.
