Medical Director - Dr Bona Lotha
|
Dr
Bona is the founder and Medical Director of Yemen Smile, and the
`heart and soul`of the charity`s work. For the first five years he was
involved in carrying out and supervising all the medical procedures.
Thankfully, from 2008, some expat volunteer doctors help him with the
cleft and aesthetic recon surgery related planning and surgery -
Dr. Diana, Dr. Ton, Dr. Yeap CL and Dr. Jean Paul Roux.

He gained his MD in 1990 and worked extensively among poor communities in
India, Nepal, Thailand and China. He is an experienced cosmetic and facial
plastic surgeon who spent his early years at JIPMER, AIIMS(N Del),EHA and later studied in the UK,Singapore,and Chang
Gung Taipei. Since 2003 he
has worked in Yemen as Overseas Consultant for Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery
with Dr. C.L.Yeap, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

Bona has carried out hundreds of successful operations on cleft/reconstructive
surgery on children in Yemen.
His latest manual "Cleft Craft in Yemen"
written in English and Arabic for trainee cleft surgeons (the first of
its kind in the Middle East) has just been published. 500 copies of
the manual were sponsored by one of the Yemen Smile
Trustees, Colin Kramer, and his team from
DNO.
In December 2001, he was invited as a three month visiting scholar at the Dallas
International Craniofacial Institute and commended for his newer and improved
designs in cleft surgery by Prof. Ken Salyer, Past President of the US and
International Plastic and Craniofacial Society and Founder of the World
Craniofacial Foundation.

Dr. C.L Yeap - Aesthetic Recon support. Dr Yeap is Aesthetic, Recon and Plastic Surgery Consultant
at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. He gives some of his
free time every year to help plastic surgery patients in China and
elsewhere.

Tony Moss -
Consultant Paediatric and Plastic Surgeon. Worked as a Senior Consultant Paediatric and
Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon at St.George's, London. He is now actively involved with the Interplast
Australasian mission and has been a regular
supporter of cleft missions. He also helps Yemen
Smile with difficult consultations for paediatric craniomax facial
problems.

Prof.John B Mulliken, Director of the Craniofacial Centre at Childrens Hospital Boston.
Prof Mulliken has
offered to help the charity with online consultations for difficult
craniofacial and other Plastic surgery cases. He will also help improve
the present skills of the medical support team by by offering short
term clinical training and fellowship at his Boston unit.

Professor K.O. Lee -
Chief of Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore. Prof
Lee is also Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians in the UK, Middle
East and Asia. He is involved in medical charity work in Vietnam
and other Asian countries.

Dr Diana Nikolova - Dentist
and Craniofacial Surgery Unit, University Hospital, Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Dr Nikolova is a dentist and researcher in alveolar clefts and is very
actively involved in the lives of cleft children in her city.
Her input with Yemen Smile will be mainly in cleft and dental care of
Yemeni children.

| Dr Ton
Van Konigsveld (Holland) Cleft surgeon. He is an experienced
surgeon from Holland who works mainly among rural patients in Yemen.
He also has some experience in treating cleft lip and burn
deformities. |

| Dr Wahed
Neza, Paediatric anaesthetist, Sana`a. He has successfully treated
hundreds of cleft lip and palate children as well as other plastic
surgery patients. Dr Wahed also volunteers his free time with
Yemen Smile to help the target hospitals learn paediatric anaesthesia
techniques. |

Dr.Jean Paul Roux,
Marseilles, senior ENT consultant He has years of experience in nose, ear
and neck surgeries including microsurgical work. He has attended
four Yemen Smile charity camps in the last two years alone and is now
actively involved as a hands on person of the medical team. His input
will be in training ENT surgeons and also help the team improve ENT
care of cleft children in Yemen.
