Partnership with Smile Train

An official agreement of Association between the Smile Train Inc., and Yemen Smile, Yemen was signed and brought to effect on the first of January 2010 signed by:

The agreement includes the Smile Train sponsorship of two hundred and fifty cleft lip and palate operations for Yemeni cleft children through all Yemen Smile Target Units across Yemen.

The Smile Train will fund the following types of cleft surgeries:

Primary Lip /Nose unilateral repair
Primary Lip/Nose Bilateral Repair
Primary Cleft Palate Repair
Fistula repair including repair of uvula breakdown, small fistula the soft palate
Secondary Cleft Palate (velopharyngeal) repair
Lip and /or nose revision includes scar revisions, alar base excision, correction of vermillion deformity, rhinoplasty and tip rhinoplasty
Alveolar bone graft

Yemen Smile Charity Sana’a is thankful to the leaders of the Smile Train for allowing the charity to improve its present cleft safety protocol with the Smile Train’s safety and quality improvement protocol. The charity will from January 2010 use the excellent Patient Medical record of the Smile Train and its online database to maintain a record of cleft patients who come under this partnership programme.

The Smile Train is the worlds largest and most sophisticated charity using the latest innovations in cleft aesthetic and functional reconstruction .The charity introduced the worlds first hi tech free 3 D virtual reality teaching DVDs through its lab at New York Medical University Plastic Surgery under Prof Court Cutting and team. All cleft programmes in the world benefit directly or indirectly from the Smile Train charity.

All the surgeries performed under Yemen Smile Charity are either free or very highly subsidized and many cleft children in Yemen have benefited over the years.

With the help of the Smile Train grant this year we hope many more Yemeni cleft children will smile again for the first time in their lives.

Yemen Smile target hospitals and cleft families across Yemen warmly welcome the Smile Train and are grateful for the love and compassion shown to all Yemenis by the two charities.
