Hais Cleft camp Sana'a - 25-26th May 2008

A two day cleft lip surgery camp was held at the Hadda Specialist hospital in Sana'a for the region of Hais. Seven patients attended the clinic and five children were operated for their cleft lip problems. The post operative period was uneventful.

Some of the children had bad deformities of the nose, palate and the premaxilla which would require more specialized treatment at a later date. Dr.Wahed Neza and sister Chacko took care of all the patients during the camp.
 

The Adentist Development Relief Agency  team from Sana'a headed by Nagi Khalil and Angelica Krut along with their employees arranged all the medications and also sponsored the hotel stay of the families of the cleft children.

An invitation was offered to Yemen Smile to visit Hais in the near future to help the local hospital develop a small smile treatment centre for the benefit of patients in this region of Yemen.

Thanks to all the sponsors of the charity for making it possible for cleft children to receive treatment in Sana at the Hadda hospital.

Some local Yemeni surgeons from the large teaching hospital Althawra in Sana'a visited the hospital out of curiosity after the camp to find out how such a programme could be run in a small private hospital and they were eager to know how volunteer expat surgeons practice cleft surgery on Yemeni patients.

The charity is hopeful that more local surgeons who practice cleft surgery in Sana'a will be actively involved in taking care of their country's cleft children in the near future with the help of their local government councils and generous Yemeni sponsors who may be willing to help such children in Yemen.
