Taiz  Baladi Ajnabi  camp Feb 2-4 2009

A two and a half day follow up camp was held at the Taiz Karama hospital for patients who were seen during the October 2008 cleft camp.

Fourteen patients attended the clinic from the Taiz, Ibb, Hodeidah regions and eight of them were successfully operated   over a period of two and a half days.

Two patients who had recently fled the fighting in Somalia also requested us to help a child with a cleft lip and palate, both of which were repaired at surgery.

A child with a bilateral cleft lip and pre maxillary deformity who had been operated upon five times by visiting expat plastic surgery teams in the past was also successfully operated upon by the team.

Another child with a very complicated deformity of the premaxilla who had been refused surgery by a visiting German plastic surgery team at the Althowra hospital in Taiz because of the very complicated defect and anesthesia risk was also included in our list where the initial setback surgery for the bone was done along with a first stage lip adhesion surgery; the parents were instructed to bring the child to our next follow up camp for the second stage repair.

Special thanks to Total E&P, DNO and the Yemeni and expat volunteers at the Taiz Karama hospital for making the camp a success.
