We provide free or low cost medical services, primarily to children
and young people in Yemen, in particular, provision of cleft palate
and other reconstructive plastic surgery.
|
|
We also provide training in cleft palate surgery and other medical
techniques to selected doctors and other medical personnel in Yemen,
with a view to increasing the availability and expertise of
reconstructive surgery in the country.
Since its establishment in 2003, Yemen Smile has seen over 460
patients with cleft deformities, and some 439 have been operated
upon. Our treatment goals are to achieve early correction of both
form and function, and to provide long-term monitoring.
We operate country-wide through a series of medical 'camps', using
local facilities wherever possible.

target areas for 2007 include Aden, Sa
́adah, Seiyun and the islands of
Socotra, where medical facilities of any kind are very basic indeed.
